Leekes have announced that the last quarter has seen their best sales performance for over three years, with sales up by over 10% over the previous year. This news coincided with the ONS announcement earlier today that the economy has slipped back into recession after GDP for the first quarter of 2012 fell by 0.2%. Peter Martin, Leekes Store Operations Director said that he believed that retail sales were a far stronger indication of economic strength than the headline GDP figures.
