Leekes presents cheque to Ysgol Hen Felin

Leekes, the award-winning retailer, has presented a cheque for £866.66 to local school, Ysgol Hen Felin.

Staff at Tonypandy Leekes chose to support the school because of its excellent work with children who have learning difficulties. Formerly known as the Rhondda Special School, Ysgol Hen Felin has close links with the community and is a huge support to the growing number of parents who rely on the care and education the school provides. The number of pupils has increased from 65 to 141 in the last six years, with the number of classes rising from 8 to 13.

£433.33 was raised through staff and customer donations at Tonypandy Leekes and then generously matched by the Board of Directors to make a final total of £866.66. The money will go towards a foundation phase for the school; a play area which helps to develop the children’s skills in outdoor play and interaction.

Ysgol Hen Felin’s Head Teacher, Mr. Andy Henderson collected the cheque from Tonypandy Store Manager, Peter James and said, “This is a fantastic donation from Leekes and we’d like to say a huge thank you to all staff at the Tonypandy store. The £866.66 from Leekes will go a long way towards helping to provide our unique service to the children and families in the area who need us. This donation is very much appreciated”.

At the 2008 British Retail Awards, Leekes was voted Silver Award winner in the Britain’s Best Independent Department Store category.
