Leekes get active in the community
December 2007 saw Leekes and the Vale Resort join forces with CwmNi, a Communities First Partnership, to provide the residents of Treherbert with top of the range fitness equipment for the local Boys and Girls Club.
Through an ‘Active Lifestyle Challenge Fund’ grant of £17,172 donated by the Sports Council for Wales, CwmNi have undertaken an exciting project of regeneration on the Treherbert Boys and Girls Club, providing the Rhondda community with facilities to aid in the prevention of the concerning increase in inactive lifestyles and weight gain across the nation.
We have shown our support in supplying the new gym with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals and cycling machines worth a retail value of £34,085.
An Open Evening was held on Monday 10th December at the Boys and Girls Club providing members and the local community the chance to learn from a professional with the Gym Supervisor from the Vale on hand to teach them how to use the equipment and to provide tips on how to make the most of it.
The Open Evening was a great success with plenty of the Treherbert community in attendance showing their support for the initiative. I have been informed that since the Open Evening the Club has proved to be extremely popular and they are even looking to expand further by offering salsa and aerobics lessons!
As part of the Business in the Community initiative we will be getting involved in numerous projects in the future like the Treherbert Boys and Girls Club so look out for ways you can help and show your support.
