Leekes have greener living in the bag

In a move to encourage their customers to think greener this summer, Leekes are introducing a Bag for Life.

With an estimated 10 billion plastic bags a year used by consumers in the UK alone, reducing carrier bag usage is the latest initiative to be introduced by the retailer as part of a wider environmental policy to maximise their responsibility within the community.

The funky, linear green designed bags are a responsible alternative to using numerous plastic bags. Not only are they larger in size compared to a standard plastic bag, they are also durable and designed to be used again and again.

Chris Leeke, Operations and Logistics Business Manager at Leekes, explains the reasoning behind the new initiatives:

‘As a business renowned for being part of the community we felt that it was necessary for us to do our bit to help the surrounding environment. The introduction of the Bag for Life is a small step in a much bigger project at Leekes where we are setting ourselves targets to significantly reduce our carbon footprint and the amount of landfill waste the business generates.’

To support the introduction of the Bag for Life, recycling bins for plastic bags have also been installed in stores to encourage customers to further reduce their carrier bag wastage.

The Bag for Life is available in all Leekes’ stores this summer, priced at £1.
