Home trends – a look back and what to expect in 2025

As we step into 2025, it’s clear that 2024 was a transformative year for UK homes. The past year brought exciting trends that redefined how we live, blending style, sustainability, and functionality. From furniture to gardens, each area of the home saw remarkable innovation, setting the stage for what’s to come. We caught up with Jo Littlejohn, Buying & Merchandising Director, to reflect on the highlights of 2024 and explore what’s in store for 2025.

Furniture: Flexible and sustainable designs

“2024 was all about furniture that could adapt to different needs,” recalls Jo Littlejohn. “Modular designs, space-saving solutions, and eco-friendly materials were customer favourites.”

Curved forms, soft bouclé textures, and rich colours like deep green, terracotta, and navy dominated the landscape, while reclaimed wood and recycled materials reinforced a commitment to sustainability.

Looking to 2025, expect more innovative designs that blend function with environmental responsibility.

Kitchens: A blend of minimalism and personality

Last year, kitchens became sleek and practical, featuring handleless cabinets, integrated appliances, and matte finishes. However, homeowners also sought to personalise these spaces with bold statement islands and natural textures like stone and wood.

“People really embraced the idea of making their kitchen the focal point of their home,” says Jo. “Adding pops of colour and unique materials to islands was a standout trend along with the addition of acoustic panelling which helps to bring in natural elements and works well with open plan areas that have shared entertaining spaces.”

As we move through 2025, expect smarter kitchens with voice-activated appliances and energy-efficient technology taking centre stage.

Bathrooms: Spa-like luxury with a personal touch

2024 transformed bathrooms into tranquil retreats, with freestanding tubs, walk-in showers, and natural finishes like stone and marble. Soothing tones of grey, green, and blue were popular, paired with elegant fixtures in matte black or brushed gold.

“We noticed a surge in demand for features like underfloor heating and rainfall showers,” Jo notes. “People wanted their bathrooms to feel luxurious but also calming and restorative.”

In 2025, smart bathrooms with customisable lighting, water temperature settings, and integrated audio systems will take relaxation to the next level. Plus you can expect to see more tactile surfaces through the use of wood effect tiles, further adding to the spa-like aesthetic.

Bedrooms: Fitted storage and tailored solutions

In 2024, bedrooms underwent a significant shift toward practicality and organisation, with fitted furniture and built-in storage solutions becoming must-haves. It was also the year we launched our brand new fitted bedroom studios.

“Customers want bedrooms that worked harder for them,” says Jo. “Fitted wardrobes, clever under-bed storage, and integrated bedside solutions were incredibly popular as people sought to maximise space without compromising on style.”

Neutral tones like taupe and sage created a calming backdrop, while accessories such as mirrors and lighting helped enhance the sense of space. Looking ahead to 2025, we anticipate even more demand for bespoke fitted bedroom designs that cater to individual needs, incorporating hidden compartments, sliding doors, and multi-functional furniture.

Home accessories and lighting: Adding the finishing touches

In 2024, accessories and lighting played a vital role in tying home designs together. From sculptural table lamps to oversized pendants, lighting became a statement feature.

“Layered lighting was a huge trend,” Jo recalls. “Homeowners used a mix of task, ambient, and accent lighting to create depth and drama in their spaces.”

Accessories like textured throws, bold cushions, and decorative vases added warmth and personality, allowing for affordable and easy updates.

For 2025, the focus is on bold accent pieces that add a point of difference and for Spring Summer in particular there will be a lot of bright and colourful pieces that really make a statement.

Paint colours and affordable updates

Neutral tones like soft taupe, greige, and sage dominated 2024, offering a soothing backdrop for homes. Bold feature walls in jewel tones or earthy shades added character without overwhelming the space.

Paint is one of the easiest ways to transform a room,” Jo says. “In 2024, we saw a lot of customers experiment with colour to refresh their spaces affordably.” In 2025, expect homeowners to continue using paint and accessories as cost-effective ways to update their homes. Earthy tones, terracotta hues, and calming blues are predicted to take centre stage.
