Leekes Proud Sponsors of Rhondda Netball

Leekes have become the main sponsor for Rhondda netball - a new sports initiative, working in partnership with local primary and secondary schools throughout the Rhondda..

Established in September 2016, Rhondda Netball had a goal to help motivate girls and young women to keep healthy and active whilst also building their self esteem and confidence. Since then the charity has gone from strength to strength with 250 girls now making up five local clubs in Treorchy, Tonypandy, Ferndale, Porth and Cymer, with over 500 girls involved in total.

Lawrie Davies, from Rhondda Netball explains that having Leekes as a sponsor has been a massive boost and has enables them to speed things up dramatically. “There are hundreds of girls who owe a big ‘Thank You!' to Leekes. Indeed, the huge participation figures have already made us the most impressive community sports initiative in Wales and we’re delighted that Rhondda’s female athletes now have an outlet.”

Emma & 3 Rhondda Under 11'sGerald Leeke, Leekes Chairman explains: “Our family and business originated in the Rhondda , and although my parents moved from Clydach Vale before I was ten years old, I am still very much  a Rhondda boy at heart. So when I was shown the excellent Rhondda Netball vision document and saw the obvious popularity of netball in the community, I was eager to see what we could do to help. The rest as they say is history, and we look forward to seeing Rhondda Netball positively impact the lives of Rhondda’s young people in the years to come.”

Leekes Managing Director, Emma Leeke, added: “I’m also very passionate about seeing young girls fulfil their potential, so the initiative really ticked all the boxes for us and we’re excited at the prospect of helping Rhondda Netball progress to the next level!”
