About the team:
Our home installations business spans conservatories, windows and doors, fitted kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms – a large and complex operation that touches every part of the customer journey, from first enquiry to finished installation. This team works closely with store and central management to keep standards, service and profitability consistently high across every category.
About the role:
We’re looking for an experienced operations leader to oversee our conservatory, window and door, fitted kitchen, bedroom and bathroom operations. You’ll determine, agree, set and review the strategy for this large and complex business, working closely with store and central management teams to keep it running smoothly, profitably and to the highest standard.
Your responsibilities will span:
Products & sales – select and manage industry-leading suppliers to deliver quality, innovative products; negotiate pricing, terms and service level agreements; stay ahead of industry trends through trade shows and competitor reviews; work with the marketing team to drive enquiries and leads through digital and traditional channels; determine the best mix of store displays to drive sales across all price points; work with store managers to hit lead generation targets and monitor conversion rates; maintain pricing to achieve target gross margins; drive the sales team to maximise clean, timely conversions.
Surveys & plan checking – manage the allocation and operation of all conservatory, windows & doors contracts to surveyors; ensure all new sales are fully compliant before registration; ensure surveyors, plan checkers and customer service managers work accurately, providing training and raising debits where required; review remedials and improve working practices to protect profitability.
Installation management – work with the management team to ensure subcontractors deliver quality installations, removing poor performers and recruiting new teams as needed; review service calls to identify product or installation issues and refer to suppliers and contractors; review guarantees to balance consumer protection with business liability; review contract statuses to keep installations moving forward on time.
Reputational management – drive strong customer testimonials and manage the group’s reputation on platforms like Trustpilot and in the wider marketplace; respond promptly to negative feedback and review with the management team; enter industry awards for service and installation; address alternative dispute resolution (ADR) claims and any legal claims.
Departmental profitability – work with teams to achieve sales, margin, installation and salary budgets; analyse monthly and year to date P&Ls to identify improvements in margin, cost, salary and fleet management; deliver net profit targets across all departments monthly
Compliance & health & safety – ensure installation departments meet all legislative requirements, including subcontractor insurance and Risk Assessments/Method Statements; work with payroll and finance on correct subcontractor payments via the Construction Industry Scheme; ensure work is scheduled around planning permission, building regulations and build-over-sewer agreements.
Team development – promote a culture of learning and development, supporting training opportunities; implement the company personal development review process and oversee training plans, reviewing every six months; manage performance fairly, professionally and promptly, addressing issues as they arise; liaise with the HR team and lead disciplinary investigations where required, ensuring a thorough process before recommending action.
About you:
Proven experience managing a large, multi-category operation, ideally in retail, home improvement or a related sector.
Strong commercial acumen with experience negotiating supplier terms and managing supply chains.
