Home Improvements Sales Manager

We are seeking an experienced, commercially focused and proactive Home Improvements Sales Manager to lead our Home Improvements department at Leekes Llantrisant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales growth, developing our trade customer base, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the department, and leading a motivated team to deliver exceptional customer service. Working closely with the Home Improvements Buying Controller, you will ensure the department operates efficiently, maintains excellent stock availability, and achieves commercial targets while providing an outstanding experience for both retail and trade customers.

Responsibilities:

• Drive sales and profitability across the Home Improvements department through excellent commercial management.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing trade customers while supporting the recruitment of new trade accounts.
• Maximise linked sales opportunities across all Home Improvements categories.
• Work alongside the Home Improvements Buying Controller to ensure product ranges meet customer demand and business objectives.
• Manage stock ordering, deliveries, returns and inventory control in accordance with company procedures.
• Oversee stock counts, investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions where required.
• Coordinate delivery schedules with warehouse and transport teams to maximise efficiency across Building Centres.
• Ensure all deliveries are accurately received, processed and dispatched using company systems.
• Lead, motivate and develop the Home Improvements team to achieve departmental objectives and deliver outstanding customer service.
• Conduct regular team briefings, performance reviews and identify training and development opportunities.
• Ensure colleagues are trained to work across all Home Improvements departments, including specialist services such as paint mixing.
• Monitor staffing levels, attendance and performance to ensure the department is appropriately resourced.
• Maintain high standards of merchandising, housekeeping and department presentation.
• Resolve customer enquiries and complaints professionally, ensuring excellent customer satisfaction.
• Ensure compliance with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures, carrying out risk assessments and maintaining accurate documentation where required.
• Work collaboratively with Store Management and the Buying Controller to support the continued growth and success of the department.

Requirements:

• Previous management experience within a retail, builders’ merchant or home improvements environment.
• Proven ability to drive sales performance and deliver commercial targets.
• Experience managing trade customers and developing long-term business relationships is desirable.
• Strong leadership skills with experience coaching, motivating and developing teams.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
• Experience managing stock control, deliveries and operational processes.
• Strong customer service skills with the confidence to resolve issues professionally.
• Good IT skills with experience using stock management or ERP systems (Navision experience is advantageous).
• Knowledge of home improvement products, decorating supplies, kitchens, bathrooms or building materials would be beneficial.
• Understanding of Health & Safety legislation within a retail or warehouse environment.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including every other Saturday.
