Ulyana Hammond was born in 1981 in St Petersburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Russia, renowned for its outstanding architecture. This was a great source of inspiration to her as she grew up to appreciate the historical riches around her.
This painting in a palette of gun-metal grey and grasshopper green throws a lone group of whitewashed cottages and a speckling of seagulls into sharp contrast. Meanwhile, her deft used raised image and colour creates a powerful sense of depth and distance.
