We are creating our dream home: a barn conversion in West Wales; and have very strong opinions on how we wanted to fit out the whole house, particularly the kitchen. We went everywhere looking at kitchens, including The Midlands, Hampshire and South Wales. We also attended Grand Designs Live and National Homebuilding & Renovating Show at the NEC in Birmingham, several years running; and talked to lots of people across the UK about kitchens; including most of the big names.
Steve Morgan at Leekes Cross Hands took all the time in the world as we evolved together, a final plan for our kitchen layout; it was quite a journey! He patiently stuck with us over several months, as we changed our minds on layout changes, and cabinet and appliance specifications. If we had another idea or question, he would take time to run us through the consequences of that choice: how it would affect the finished kitchen, where the appliances would fit and of course price! We had a definite budget in mind and Steve was able to discuss options to enable us to keep within that. At this point, we were still talking to other suppliers, and we had not paid any money upfront to Leekes.
Having made the decision to choose Leekes, we have not been disappointed; they sell a lot of kitchens, and are consequently able to offer extremely competitive prices on both cabinets and appliances; and their customer services are excellent.
We wanted an extremely contemporary look, so we chose German manufacturer, Rot Punkt for the cabinets combined with integral Neff appliances. We have tall (larder) units in a high gloss “metallic” finish, contrasted with urban wild oak base units. The carcass and plinths for the tall units are in urban wild oak, to tie the contrasting styles together. We also have absolutely gorgeous pull out larder inserts in two of the tall units. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the cabinetry and the Neff appliances are a pleasure to use.
We opted to use a different supplier for the island worktop and also decided to buy supply only and fit the kitchen ourselves, in our own time; Leekes had no problem with either of this. At no time did we feel coerced into anything we were not happy with: our kitchen – our choice!
We can highly recommend Leekes for kitchens, and our kitchen designer Steve Morgan was a pleasure to deal with.
We still haven’t completed the final touches to our kitchen, and the photos reflect this.
