Your bed and mattress work in harmony to provide you with the comfort and support that your body needs during sleep, so it is always worth considering buying the two together. Here is our guide to help ensure that you get the most out of your mattress.
Memory foam
Memory foam mattresses or toppers are a great choice for those with allergies due to their hypo-allergenic with anti-microbial properties. The man made foam material moulds to your body shape to provide incredible support and comfort, relieving pressure on joints and working to correctly align your spine.
Latex
Latex mattresses are very similar to memory foam mattresses, as they mould to your body and provide support to your joints and back. However, latex generally has more elasticity than memory foam with more bounce and faster reaction times. Latex is a great option for those who get too hot during the night, as they retain less heat than memory foam.
Pocket sprung
Pocket spring mattresses provide a luxurious and comfortable sleep surface. The small individual springs housed in separate fabric pockets work independently to respond to support your body’s weight and contours, minimising the risk of rolling towards your partner during sleep.
Hybrid mattresses
Hybrid mattresses combines both a steel coil support system and one or more types of foam. Foams such as; polyurethane, memory foam, or latex can be used as well as those that contain gels that may offer cooling qualities.
You will probably already have a pretty good idea of what size bed you want. But one of the most common sleeping issues is not having enough space, so it is always worth trying to get the biggest size your home and budget will allow.

There are a number of ways you can pro-long the life of mattresses, we have included a number of hints and tips below:
Protectors
When buying a new mattress we always recommend the additional purchase of a protector in order to prolong its life. A mattress protector keeps your purchase clean as well as keeping its “new” condition for longer. There are also allergy benefits to using one particularly those relating to dust mites.
Toppers
Toppers or mattress pads offer additional padding to your new or existing mattress. Mattress toppers can prolong the life of your mattress by adding additional protection to your springs. They can also add comfort to your existing mattress until you’re ready to purchase a new one.
Ensure that you air mattresses for up to 5 hours after you have taken your delivery. Mattresses should be aired weekly.
Use a cotton protector which can easily be washed and avoid any plastic covering on your mattress to ensure that the air can be circulated.
Depending on your mattress it may be worth flipping your mattress on a regular basis as it will prolong the life of your mattress and ensure that it does not wear unevenly.
It is recommended that you vacuum every two to three months. It will help with removing dead skin cells and reduces the risk of dust mites.
