Lighting should be functional and stylish. Whilst offering the obvious practicalities lighting also creates ambience and warmth in your home. Our indoor lighting buying guide will help you choose the best lighting for your home.
Practically every room uses ceiling lights. Powered directly from the ceiling and attached via an anchor and hook, it is the basic lighting of our rooms at home. Types, shapes and designs vary a lot, ceiling lights can give direct lighting (above a table), indirect lighting (using a deflector to create a cozy atmosphere) or ambient lighting (to create a refined, intimate atmosphere etc.) Depending on your rooms, it is important to choose the right luminous flux for them, not all ceiling lights allow a wide range of power.

Shades are an essential element in addition to a table lamp or ceiling light. Replacing a shade is a quick and easy way to update your décor without the need for additional expense. Bright lampshades give an invigorating atmosphere, while dark shades create a soft atmosphere and backup light.
Style tip: remember that the height of your lamp base should be roughly equal to the width of your shade.

Depending on the room we are in, we do not need the same type of lighting. A strong light in a bedroom or a soft light in a dining room is not ideal. To guide you, here are some ideas!
It is the most difficult room to illuminate because it has many different purposes. If your living room is not open plan and also home to your dining set, opt for indirect lighting or mood lighting to create a warm atmosphere while ensuring sufficient brightness. To do so, a floor standing lamp with dimmer switch will be perfect. You can also play with your furniture, your plants, your decorations by highlighting them with small spotlights with indirect lighting. If your living room is also a dining room, you will need a lamp with direct lighting on the table. Ceiling light will be perfect in this case, vertically positioned, adapted to your decoration.
In the kitchen, your options are endless. Above your cooking appliances, your worktops, or your sink, choose a powerful direct light. This is called functional lighting and spotlights or bar lights are great for this. But kitchen lighting doesn’t only need to have a functional purpose. Adding pendant lights above a kitchen island or breakfast bar is a great way of creating a focal point in your room. Also, if your kitchen is also where you dine, cluster lights can look great over a dining table.
A room that must inspire peacefulness, rest and calm. However, to do daily tasks (make the bed, clean, tidy up your clothes, etc.) you must have good lighting. To do this, like in the living room, you can opt for several lights that will each have a different purpose: ceiling lights or a floor lamp to illuminate the entire room, and bedside lamps or small wall lights to create a soft and relaxed atmosphere once in bed. If your bedroom has a walk-in closet, it should have its own lighting – direct if possible with spot lights or wall lights built inside the closet.
Impossible to leave this space in the dark. You have a number of options to introduce lighting to this area including; high power ceiling lights, bars of spot lights, wall lights. As this is the entrance of your home it is an area that should be welcoming and you can use a statement light to create impact.
Vary the lights:
Whatever the room, a single light source is not ideal. Think about everyday life and everyday tasks. A strong and direct light as main lighting, and one or more diffuse or indirect lighting to create a cozy atmosphere at the end of the day.
Adapt the luminous flux:
The most beautiful lamp in the world is useless if it is not equipped with a bulb adapted to its need. Also think about energy savings with LED.
Respect the decoration:
Head your choice towards lighting that goes well with your home’s style. Modern with modern, classic with classic, etc.
