Curtains & Blinds

Should curtains be lighter or darker than walls?

Curtains can be both lighter and darker than your walls – it just depends on the effect you want to give. For a modern look, you could opt for curtains that are a similar colour to your wall. For example, beige walls would look fabulous with sheer white curtains to add light to your room. Or, a patterned curtain from Orla Kiely with similar tones would be sure to add dimension too.

If you like a traditional look, you could choose curtains that are contrasting to your wall. For a beige wall, this could look like a burnt orange or even a teal green.

What colour curtains make a room look bigger?

Curtains that are lighter than the room will automatically make the room look bigger. This is because they're not blocking any sunlight and will simply complement the room, rather than dominate it.

If you want a cosier vibe, a darker curtain is a great option. Many like darker curtains in the bedroom to create the perfect sleep sanctuary.

Is it okay to just have blinds and no curtains?

Yes, many people opt for just blinds! This is a great option for smaller rooms where curtains could look overpowering. If you're putting blinds in a bedroom, it's a good idea to opt for blackout blinds if you choose to not have curtains. This will create a serene environment to sleep in, all whilst giving you the privacy you need.
